My heart was racing and its beats were loud and could be heard. The lungs were drawing in more oxygen to accommodate the energy spent in running. I was sweating and my forehead showed new drops oozing out every few seconds and replacing the old ones that were wiped out. I reached the food court and saw her standing in queue to the billing section. She, the girl of my dreams had come into my life a few days ago. After which my life was just revolving around the moments I get to see her and the ones that I wait in anticipation to see her. But today I said to myself “Enough of seeing. You are not a teen anymore and are not going to lose her just by waiting for miracles.” Well, I wasn’t planning my proposal; instead I wanted to know something that can determine the course of my proposal.
‘Excuse me’
‘Yes’
‘Can I have a word with you, alone?’
She showed signs of surprise and was reluctant to move. Her friends were equally surprised and were scanning me head to toe/shoe, a reaction shared by many other strangers in that place.
‘Ok. I just wanted to ask three questions’
She had a small smile in her face which she hid as soon as it occurred. Unlike the heroines of Indian Cinema, she should upright, put her hands on her hip and looked into my eyes as if I am a stupid student saying the 'a plus b whole square' all wrong after an hour long tutoring.
‘Yes’
‘I can see that you are not married. But are in a relationship?’
‘Hmmm… no’
‘Hope you know me. Have any of my deeds been an irritation or dislike to you?’
‘No’
‘That’s it thanks’
‘You have a question left. You said 3 questions’
‘Nope it’s enough’
I turned and took a step. I had already devised my next proposal plan and was happy with this conversation.
‘I thought you will ask if I love you’
I was awestruck and turned to see her. I was genuinely in doubt if she had told that, or someone onlooker is trying a prank.
‘I would have said Yes’
There was a big smile in my face which spread to her and few others who were watching us who immediately spread the good news to their table mates who missed it.
‘You guys are always dramatic. Can’t you be straight?’
‘Dramatics are always admired dear.’
I knew that was a stupid one liner, anyways she smiled a smile that's etched in my retina for life. We sat in the table nearby and started talking which later continued all life.
Life doesn’t have to be Complex always.
PS - I never had a third question.
